November 2025 Partnership Convening: Uncovering the Connection – The Link Between Mental Health and Substance Use in Adolescence

What are real consequences of drug use on a teenager’s mental health and well-being?
The brain continues developing until about age 25, making childhood and adolescence critical periods for brain development. Exposure to alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and other drugs during this time has lasting impacts on the brain. This workshop will explore the latest evidence on the:
- Complex bidirectional relationship of mental health, substance use, and adolescent development
- Role mental health plays on youth substance use initiation and SUD progression
- Consequences of substance use on a young person’s mental health and wellness
- Strategies and actionable steps to expand both individual and community protective factors so all youth can flourish.
The Partnership holds convenings with partners every other month to discuss upcoming activities and prevention initiatives. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from other prevention professionals and gain tools to make a difference in your community.
