Parents and caregivers play an important role in guiding how children and teens use social media. But starting that conversation can be hard! How can we engage young people in useful conversations? What are some roadblocks to avoid?

This live virtual event for parents and caregivers will explain four keys to talking with youth in a way that can help drive them to make healthier choices: partnership, acceptance, compassion, and empowerment. Join Pam Pietruszewski from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing along with the American Academy of Pediatrics Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health as we explore ways parents and caregivers can talk about healthy habits for social media use.

Following the webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain how principles of motivation and communication roadblocks can apply to decisions about social media use.
  • Practice skills that demonstrate a mindset of partnership, acceptance, compassion, and empowerment for effective conversations around social media use.
  • Discuss resources and strategies to support conversations with youth around healthy social media use.
