Community members (gatekeepers) come from many walks of life, and whether experienced in suicide prevention or not, can play a key role in preventing suicide. A gatekeeper is anyone who may have contact with a person at risk of suicide. When gatekeepers/ community members have information on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and connect a person at risk to appropriate help, the safety net for citizens in the community is strengthened.
The Connect training is a unique community based model utilizing evidence based practices that increase the competence and confidence of community members in preventing suicide. This comprehensive program includes protocols, interactive case scenarios and exercises, discussion, power point slides, and supplemental materials.
