The Partnership will convene with partners every other month to discuss upcoming activities and prevention initiatives.

This month, we will be joined by Kate Frey who will provide an update about where NH is in regards to cannabis legislation and Dr. Kristen Gilliland who will talk about the health impact of cannabis use.

• Kate Frey is the Vice President of Advocacy at New Futures NH, with the primary responsibility of directing and managing New Futures’ alcohol and other drug policy initiatives. Also in her role as Vice President of Advocacy, Kate analyzes state budget policies related to the revenues raised from the sale of alcohol in the state in order to ensure adequate and appropriate funding for substance misuse programs and services and works with policymakers and stakeholders to influence spending priorities for prevention, treatment and recovery. Kate also tracks, analyzes, and synthesizes policy, legislative proposals, best practices, and research related to alcohol and other drug policy issues.
• Kristen Gilliland earned her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Kristen serves as the Director of Outreach and Advocacy and a Drug Discovery Scientist for the Warren Center at Vanderbilt University. In 2019, Kristen tragically lost her 22-year old son to an accidental overdose. Her son’s addiction to opioids and stimulants followed soon after he was diagnosed with cannabis-induced psychosis at the age of 17. After her unimaginable loss, Kristen changed the trajectory of her life to utilize her scientific teaching, and research background to educate adolescent-aged children and their parents about mental health struggles and addiction. She has a sincere passion for reaching the young to prevent this heartbreaking tragedy from happening to other families.
