Media Literacy Curricula For Middle School – Professional Development

November 2, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

$10
youth together in a computer lab

Media Power Youth’s mission is to inspire youth to engage with media in thoughtful and constructive ways that support their physical and mental well-being. Throughout the pandemic, we have been working collaboratively with educators and student leaders to expand and enhance our resources for middle school youth.

Media and technology use both in and out of the classroom has changed and evolved over the last two years. In this workshop, we’ll share insights into technology’s impact on student well-being as well as how to engage students in a dialogue about using these tools positively in and out of school. We will introduce you to our new resources including our youth-designed project-based learning module, Digital Climate Change, our new program, Cyber Cipher: Decoding Social Networks, and a new supplement containing lessons on video games. We will also share our experiences with implementing these tools in schools and ideas that educators have shared with us along the way. The strategies and resources that we will introduce you to in this workshop offer educators new opportunities to engage students in advocating for their own well-being in a creative and positive way.

This PD will be three hours via Zoom and is recommended for 5-8th grade educators. This workshop is presented thanks to support from the NH Department of Justice, private foundations, and individual donors.
