Health literacy is the ability to find, understand, and use health information to make good health decisions. Information is a key driver of health, but in an era saturated with misinformation, it is hard to know fact from fiction. Whether we are messaging about nutrition, vaccines or substance use, as public health communicators, we have the responsibility to deliver accurate, up-to-date information while addressing inaccurate facts or myths, so people can make informed decisions about their health. Dr. Jessica Steier, founder and host of the popular podcast series Unbiased Science, will help us become more informed and critical of health claims by applying scientific methods. Join us to learn how you can be a purveyor of truth. Dr. Jessica Steier is a public health scientist and award-winning science communicator dedicated to improving science literacy.
We will also be joined by Christina Curell, MPH, a JSI is a seasoned public health communicator having developed campaigns that work to reduce stigma, change attitudes, and influence behavior around issues like smoking, vaping and opioid overdose prevention in the U.S. and abroad. She’ll share lessons learned from campaign development and execution, including refining your audience, messages, and channels, and partner engagement for campaigns with impact.
