Sadly, the increased festivities also mean an increased number of impaired drivers on our roadways. Driving impaired is a deadly choice that often carries deadly consequences.

With so many motorists traveling to attend gatherings and get-togethers with family and friends, it's important to reiterate and keep in mind, that most crashes during this holiday season are related to impairment. We want everyone to understand that saving lives on New Hampshire roadways is our top priority and we need everyone's help. This is a great time to remind drivers to be responsible motorists.

There are many ways to be a be a responsible motorist: download a rideshare app or number for a taxi service, have a designated driver, plan how you are going to get home before you go out, don't text and drive, and pay attention when operating a motor vehicle.

Ultimately, the responsibility for preventing impaired driving lies within each of us. It is important to also be a good bystander, don't let your friends or family get behind the wheel and become another statistic. This will ensure that you have many more holiday seasons to celebrate with this person. The festivities are meant to be enjoyed, but always drink responsibly, and never choose to drive impaired. Buzzed driving is drunk driving.
